From the grit and raw energy of the Smoker, where fighters take their very first steps under the lights, the journey now accelerates. Ignition is the moment where experience turns into ambition — where every round has meaning, every strike has weight, and every win fuels the climb.

Here, raw talent meets real challenge. The sparks from your Smoker battles ignite into a roaring flame, propelling you toward higher divisions and greater glory. The crowd is louder, the stakes are higher, and your fight story burns brighter.

Event Overview


1. This event is for amateur fighter who have competed in 3 non-scored Smoker fights and focuses on continued self-development.

2. All fights are scored to encourage personal growth through scoring Muay Thai tools which are effective.

3. The event is exclusive for amateur fighters.

4. Event officials and medical staff will monitor the fights.

5. Event officials regulate the intensity of each fight utilising the scored rule set.

6. The event is a space to display one's technique and conditioning.

7. Fighters are matched based on age, sex, weight, and experience.

8. Professional sportsmanship and positive social conduct are expected by all fighters and teams,

      refrain from using profanities and negative body language.

9. Each team is provided with three corner passes. There are to be no more than three people in a corner at any given time.

10. Abusive language, behaviour or banging on the side of the boxing ring will not be tolerated.


Competitor Registration


11. Competitor registrations must be completed online at https://www.prostore.nz/testing-ground-fight-series

12. Early registration is recommended. As it increases the likelihood of a good match-up.

13. Registrations close the week before the event or prior if the fight card is completed before then.

14. The Testing Ground Ignition events aim to feature around ten fights.

15. An entry fee applies to all fighters, which can be viewed on the ticket page.

16 All teams receive three corner passes. Fighter and corner passes are presented at the weigh-ins.

17. Each fight consists of 5 rounds, 1.5 minutes each, with a 1.5-minute break between rounds.

18. Adherence to officials' directions is mandatory.

19. Knees to the body and head are allowed for adults 18 year old+. Only Knees to the body for under 18 year olds and under.

20. Elbows to the body and head are allowed for adults 18 year old+. No Elbows for under 18 year olds and under.

21. Spinning back fists are not permitted.

22. Fighters must engage in the clinch by throwing knees, elbows if permitted, and jostling for position.

23. Fighters must not hold onto the ropes.

24. Rear hip throws, hooking the lower leg for a takedown, deliberate foot trips, and stomping an opponent's feet are illegal.

25. Fighters may catch and hold a kick while counterattacking. No more than two footsteps in any direction are allowed when doing so.

26. If a fighter catches a kick and then strikes an opponent the the two step rule resets, allowing the holder of the kick another two steps.

  1. If a fighters mouth guard continuously comes dislodged or falls out of a fighters mouth. Then the fight will be stopped and the fighter cautioned.

  2. If after three cautions the mouth guard is dislodged or falls out the fighter will disqualified for safety reasons and will be deemed TKO'd.

  3. Groin shots from kicks are legal in Muay Thai - but heavily frowned upon. Hence any deliberate strike to the groin will result in pause to the fight.

    Any glances or near strikes to the groin will result in a reset of the fighters by the referee who will then signal action/fight. Any use of this rule by deception (acting) in order to get a rest or break from the fight action will not be tolerated. Protect yourself at all times. Invest in a quality groin guard.

  4. Muay Thai chest shields are required for fighters under the age of 18 years of age.

  5. Female fighters are allowed to wear leather or syntex Muay Thai chest guards ( not plastic. Supplied by the fighter). The chest guards must be approved by fight officials. The fighter's opponent must be aware of the use of a chest protector in advance of the fight. Allowing for the opponent to source their own chest protection if desired.


Clothing and Personal Protective Wear


32. The fighter must wear a club top and Muay Thai or Kickboxing Shorts.

33. 12 oz gloves and amateur-grade shin guards are mandatory (supplied by the event organiser).

34. Muay Thai head gear is required with full check and chin protection (supplied by the fighter and must be signed off by competition officials.

35. Groin guards and mouthguards are compulsory (supplied by the fighter - checked by competition officials).

36. Competitors must have two fitted mouthguards (supplied by the fighter - checked by competition officials).

      This in case one is lost before or during the fight (fighters can not compete without a fitted mouth guard).

37. Body protection is optional for fighters 16 years of age and older, but if worn, they are supplied by you and need to be authorised by a

Testing Ground Smoker official before use.

38. Standard training hand wraps are allowed, but no build-ups.

39. Boxing gloves, shin guards, groin guards, and mouthguards must be fitted before the walkout to enter the ring.


Health and Hygiene


40. Toenails must be trimmed and clean.

41. Clothing worn by the fighter must be clean.

42. Fighters must not have flu-like symptoms.

43. Fighters 16 years of age and older must have a valid blood test see 48.

44. The blood test must have been administered within 12 months of the fight.

45. Fighters retain their blood tests for future use but must be shown to event officials at the weigh-in and medical check.

46. Fighters under 16 do not require a blood test unless there is a reason to believe one is needed. In that case, a safety-first approach is to be taken.


Weigh-In and Medical


  1. Being an amateur competition. Fighters are weighed on the day of the competition. Spot checks of fighters will administered by fight officials during the event. This is to help to ensure the safety of all of the fighters. Fighters competition on this event are expected to fight in a weight division which matches with their walk around weight. Heavy weight cutting for fights comes with many risks. This is an amateur fight show that promotes fighters health and well being. Our focus is on building fighter up via a progressive competition structure.

  2. Fighters are required to have blood test results, declaring them free from HIV (p24 antigen and HIV 1+2 antibodies); Hep B (HBsAg) & C. The results of the test must be within 12 months prior to the date of the fight and a copy of the original serology results needs to be ready at least 1 week before the official weigh-in. Fighters are to present their blood test results to the medic(s) during the medical check.

    Fighters are required to pass a medical inspection by the event medics. Only fighters which are declared fit and able to fight will be eligible to compete.

  3. We suggest that fighter's make it a regular practice to be checked by their medical practitioner(s) and to have their vitals screened. To help to ensure that they are fit and able to fight. The events medial check is not a substitute for regular health, fitness, and wellness checks for the fighters of this event.

    Fighters register for your novice matchmaking here. Fight matches are not guaranteed by applying for matchmaking. You agree that if you are not matched for a fight. Your fighter pass will convert to a spectator pass for the same event (Registrations are non-refundable). We will do our absolute best to have fighters matched. But due to conditions outside of our control matches are not always possible.
